Great food in Denver at a great price
There is a great little gem in Denver and I’m sure I’m not the first to find! If you are looking for great food in Denver, with great service and all at a great price, Work & Class is the spot! We had an opportunity for a “date night” and on a Friday night right after work (very rare). Since we live in Broomfield but work in Denver we wanted to take the opportunity to stay down in Denver and experience a new spot with great food but without breaking the bank! As usual I start with Yelp to begin my search.
Once I found Work & Class, read the reviews and saw the menu, I was sold. I love finding local and unique restaurants with not only great food and service but also not over priced. Which at times feels like it is unattainable.
We had a rough start because parking was a bit of a problem but we stayed optimistic. Once we entered there was a line out the door, which is a good sign but also a bit frustrating BUT the hostesses were very friendly and even offered us a coupon to DaDa for 20% off drinks, which was across the street. Although we chose not to go because it started raining, bit of a damper but still tried to stay optimistic, which I’m glad we did because from the moment we came in to the establishment to the time we left we had great attentive service and coming from a couple with a service background this is imperative to us.
Now for the food, all I can say is YUM! Need I say more? Basically you pick a meat (1/4, 1/2 or 1 lb.) and then a side (small/large). Plus if you are fortunate to get there early they have a good happy hour, which we took advantage of and started off with the chicharone tacos and a local beer on tap. The tacos were not greasy, which if you have had chicharones they can tend to be very greasy, they were just crisp, light and flavorful with fresh pico de gallo and homemade corn tortillas. Then we were instructed by our server that if we are hungry then he recommends getting 1/4 lb of 2-3 meats and a couple small sides to share. We did the 3 meats (we were really hungry) the cochinita pibil (red chili braised pork) with a cabbage slaw, citrus mustard braised short rib & coriander roasted Colorado lamb (which ended up being our favorite) but they were all flavorful and delicious. The lamb was cooked medium rare, sliced and seasoned to perfection. It literally melted in our mouths. For the sides we got the brussels sprout, apple and bacon hash and the thick cut French fries, again both were very good and loaded with flavor. To finish off we got the Loca’s Carrot Cake, with goat cheese frosting! We fought over every bite, we should have got two pieces!
Now, with a couple of happy hour beers each, appetizer tacos, dinner, sides and dessert , we spent $80 and that was including the 33% tip! Yes it’s true, there is a place to have dinner for two for under $100, that includes not only a hip but has uniquely delicious food with great service in downtown Denver!
Now go and try it for yourself if you haven’t already! Sorry I don’t have a picture, I ate the food too fast!
