In & Around Denver-Events, Openings, Food, Hikes & More This Weekend

I’ve pulled together a collaboration of endless activities going on this weekend in and around Denver. I will get straight to the point because I have a lot to cover in just one post!  For starters, this weekend is the 47th year of the Oktoberfest which takes place on 20th & Larimer.  Here you will feast upon authentic German food and beer starting tonight and running until Sunday.  Make sure to catch the Long Dog Derby race on Sunday at noon, featuring Denver’s fastest dachshunds.

Starting tomorrow catch the first ever Punk Rock Pie Wars!  @ the Glitter Dome Event Center off of 36th & Wynkoop.  Enjoy national and local punk rock bands while enjoying Denver’s best pizza pie creations. There will also be Denver’s DIY Crafters and Makers Market, where you can contribute to making DIY crafts and then top it off there is also a Beer & Bourbon Expo for all you 21+.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, this weekend is the CineLatino at the Denver Film Society’s Sie FilmCenter.  This four-day film festival recognizing Latino contributions in the world of cinema.

For some great food, make sure to check out Westword for a list of the twenty tastiest events happening this weekend! For starters tomorrow the Rotary Club in Five Points Cultural District is having a fundraising food truck party located in the lot behind Black Shirt Brewing Co, all donations and proceeds will go to benefit schools and youth programs in North East Denver.

Feel like taking a hike? Check out Phantom Canyon Preserve near Ft. Collins.  This is one of the Front Range’s last remaining roadless canyons that is home to nesting bald eagles. You can go on a guided hike or participate in their volunteering days to help in preserving this valley.

And last but not least if you are looking for a nice local getaway, here are some “hidden” treasures you might want to check out, and don’t forget to snap some pictures along the way with those great fall colors.  The first place I would like to point to is called Starlite Classic Campground.  It is located by the Royal Gorge Bridge and it has nine vintage trailers starting at $79/night and will fit anywhere from two to six people. It has all the linens, towels and dishes.  The campground closes October 2nd so you only have a couple weekend left to enjoy, until it reopens in May.

If you didn’t catch last weekends Colorado Crush, here is a post that has twenty-one amazing murals that you don’t want to miss, so if you have some time take a stroll through the RiNo district. AMAZING!!

Make sure whatever you do this weekend, share it with us! Or if you have a special event or a great find please post it!
