Fun things to do in Denver part I
Cold weather has finally come and with it brings some fun things to do in Denver as well as other fun adventures in our beautiful state of Colorado! If you are looking for some inside fun while the weather is cold or if you are looking for some outdoor adventures taking advantage of the snow, you come to the right place to give you some great ideas! Over the next few weeks I will share a few fun adventures that you and/or your family can enjoy both inside and outside.
For those of you looking to do something indoors, have you always wanted to learn to swing dance or maybe salsa, or how about some cowboy cha cha? Back in the day I had some great fun when the “Swing fever” hit Denver, we would go to 9th Avenue West, The Church and Mercury Cafe were they offered free lessons and a specialty night for swing dancing only. Nowadays they have even more offerings for classes and venues to get your dance on.
Mercury Cafe is still in the “swing” of things, they offer Lindy hop classes on Thursdays, Swing classes on Sundays & Blues dancing on Tuesdays (not quite sure what that is but sounds intriguing). Make sure to check out mercurycafe.com for more details if interested.
Now if your looking to spice things up there is La Rumba which offers a workshop class from 8-9 p.m. to learn salsa or bachata just before the dance floor opens to the public. They are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
For some cowboy cha cha and line-dancing you will want to look towards the Grizzly Rose which offers line-dancing lessons on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7 p.m.. They also have two mechanical bulls, 2,500 sq.ft. dance floor and also host many concerts with a variety of musical talents. The Cowboy Lounge also provides a mix of country and classic rock with free dance lessons on Friday & Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:30 pm.
For a broad mix of options there is the Denver Turnverein. They offer ballroom Mondays, tango Tuesdays, salsa on Wednesdays, country on Thursdays, Lindy hop on Fridays, then a grab bag on Saturdays and West Coast swing on Sundays!
For a little outdoor fun how about some outdoor ice skating! There are multiple locations that offer an intimate ice skating rink to enjoy. Some of the more popular locations would include the Southwest Rink at Skyline park which is located on 16th street mall. For those up north there is the WinterSkate at Steinbaugh Pavilion in Louisville and the WinterSkate at Flatirons Mall. These also include great shopping areas right next to them so you can also get some Holiday shopping done! Here is some more info on other outdoor ice skating rinks that offer some great family fun or perhaps a great “date night”!
Again, make sure to check back for some more ideas for some great Winter fun ideas!
