Great Free & Cheap Activities In Denver

Great Free & Cheap Activities In Denver

Denver is a happening place and because of its growing popularity all the local activities can come with a hefty price.  Colorado really is one big playground, with the mountains, foothills, trails, parks, bike trails, museums, art galleries, etc.  You can always find something to do or somewhere to go but to find them for little or no money can be tricky.

I’ve found a few great resources, some of which I’ve learned, experienced and discovered being a native to Colorado.  One of which that I would like to share is the Denver Art Museum.  It is free for 18 & under and and adult ticket is $10. You can pack your own lunch and snacks to also help save on costs.  They have many areas outside where you can make a picnic or sit on a bench or table.  Since its recent renovation, they’ve added some great kid friendly additions which are included with your addmission, which include numerous kid play/learning areas.  Once of which is their creative corner where kids (and adults) can go to various art stations and create a small art piece using different painting techniques and can leave to dry and pick up later to take home onces you’re done exploring the museum. They also have family backpacks that take you on a journey through the museum, which keeps your kiddos interested in going to the next destination, done in the form of a treasure hunt and also included tools and activities to complete along the way.DAC

This place literally entertains all ages. I recently took my mother (73), son (15), daughters (22 & 4) and we were all captivated by not only the beautiful artwork, displays and activities but also the building itself.  And remember to check out the free museum days, which this list also includes the Children’s Museum, Denver Art Museum, Denver Zoo, Botanic Gardens, etc. Tomorrow April 2nd happens to be one of Denver Art Museum’s free days!  Don’t miss it and make sure to arrive early in order to beat the crowds!  Another great free activity that is happening this weekend is  Arvada’s kite festival, on Sunday, April 3rd starting at 10 am until 3 pm, located at Stenger Sports Complex on 58th avenue & Quail Street.  While your down there make sure to check out scumptious
old towne Arvada, which has great local shops ranging from antique stores, clothing and a candy shop that makes homemade ice cream,Scrumptious!

For some more great ideas, Mile High on the Cheap is a website that recently posted 34 free & cheap things to do in Denver which has a great list of ideas. Which is where I found the BiTSY Stage, the litter sister theater company to the BeTSY stage.  They are a local theater that offers FREE plays for the whole family.  Currently, BiTSY is running “The Stoneman’s Wish: A Chinese Tale”, an exploration of what happens when every wish you make comes true from April 2-24th.

If you are searching for some outdoor activities keep watch because I will make sure to post some great outdoor activities as well since the weather is starting to warming up!
